IMPLEMENTING OUR LABOUR LAW

It is rather curious to see that in the budget debate for the Department of Labour the ruling party saw fit to propose and implement a budget for the Department of Labour which specifically has a decrease in the amount of monies paid to the inspectorate of the Department of Labour.  This decrease will mean further hardships for the inspectors and could lead to less inspectors being employed.  Already the Department of Labour’s inspectorate are complaining that they are under resourced and under trained.  This does not make sense in light of the fact that our government is saying that we need harsh labour laws and many employers are not adhering to these laws.

In essence, the ruling party keeps passing more and more onerous legislation but at the same time decreases the Department of Labour’s ability to enforce even the legislation that we currently have.
